CDL fees4 year CDL (age 21 and over) is $40. 8 year CDL (age 21 and over) is $60. 3 year CDL (age 18 to 21) is $30. 1 year CDL (age 20) is $15.Official page
Seasonal CDLA seasonal CDL costs $44. It is for certain farm related services, is valid for 180 days in a 12 month period, and can be obtained only twice in a lifetime. You must be at least 16 and have a valid Class D license.Official page
Other feesLicense upgrade is $30. Adding an endorsement after you get a CDL is $20. A duplicate license or permit is $20.Official page
Skills test fee$200 in total. $10 goes to the DMV office and up to $190 goes to the skills test examiner.Official page
Skills test schedulingYou contact a CDL skills test examiner yourself. Examiners must tell ITD at least 48 hours before any CDL test, so book well ahead. The test takes about two hours.Official page
Before the skills testYou must pass all knowledge tests before the skills test. You must also finish Entry Level Driver Training from a registered provider.Official page
Finishing your CDLAfter you pass, the examiner sends your results to ITD. You must go back to the county DMV to get your CDL issued.Official page
K restrictionThe K restriction means driving in Idaho only. It is put on all 18, 19 and 20 year old CDL holders.Official page
E restrictionTesting in a truck or bus with an automatic transmission puts an E restriction on your CDL, so you can drive only automatic vehicles.Official page
O restrictionIf you test in a Class A combination that does not use a fifth wheel hitch, you get an O restriction. You need a skills test with a fifth wheel tractor trailer to remove it.Official page
Air brake restrictionYou get an L restriction unless you pass the air brakes knowledge test and a skills test in a vehicle with air brakes.Official page
School bus endorsementSchool bus drivers must have both the Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) endorsements. Both need a written test and a skills test.Official page
Hazmat endorsementYou need a written test and a TSA background check to get the H endorsement, and again at each license renewal.Official page
Tank endorsementThe N endorsement is for tanks with an individual rated capacity of more than 119 gallons and a total of 1,000 gallons or more.Official page

Expired CDLIf your CDL has been expired for 25 months or more and you want to keep CDL privileges, you must take the Class D knowledge test, all CDL written tests that apply, and a skills test.Official page
New residentsYou must apply for an Idaho license, including a CDL, within 30 days of living in Idaho, even if your out of state license has not expired.Official page
Medical certificateYour medical provider must send your DOT medical results electronically. You cannot turn in the forms yourself.Official page
Medical certificate lengthA DOT physical may be valid for up to 24 months. The examiner may issue a certificate for less than 24 months to monitor a medical condition.Official page
