Wyoming CDL practice test
Every state needs at least 80% on each CDL written test, and Wyoming follows the same federal rule. Below are the fees, ages and rules we checked against the official Wyoming source, and a free practice test.
FirstTry CDL is not affiliated with any DMV, FMCSA or government agency. Practice questions are exam-style questions built from the official CDL manual, not actual test questions.
Wyoming CDL facts
| What | What Wyoming says | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Size rule for needing a CDL | Generally, you need a CDL if the vehicle has a gross vehicle weight rating of 26,001 pounds or more, is designed to carry 16 or more passengers including the driver, or carries hazardous material in an amount that must be placarded. | Official page |
| Knowledge test passing score | All written tests are multiple choice. The passing score for a written test is 80 percent. | Official page |
| Knowledge test fee | Written tests are free of charge. | Official page |
| Knowledge test retake rule | If you fail, you only retake the test you failed. Passed written tests are valid for the term of the CLP. | Official page |
| CLP fee | A CLP costs $45. A CLP renewal costs $45. | Official page |
| CDL fee | Any class of CDL costs $55. A CDL renewal costs $45. | Official page |
| CLP validity and age | A CLP is valid for 365 days. State law says you must hold a valid Wyoming classified license and be at least 18 years old to apply. | Official page |
| Skills test fee | The CDL skills test costs $85. If you fail the skills test or miss your appointment without canceling, the $85 is lost and you pay again to retest. | Official page |
| Skills test must be scheduled | CDL skills tests must be scheduled and paid for in advance. You can use oneWYO or your local driver exam office. You must cancel at least 24 hours before your appointment. | Official page |
| Knowledge tests need no appointment | Knowledge tests do not need to be scheduled ahead of time. You may wait if the exam office is very busy. | Official page |
| You bring the test vehicle | Wyoming does not provide vehicles for skills tests. You must bring a vehicle that matches the class you want. Placarded vehicles and loaded vehicles are not allowed. | Official page |
| Skills test parts | The skills test has a vehicle pre-trip inspection, a basic control skills test and an over-the-road test. It is given by appointment only after you pass all needed written tests. | Official page |
| Skills test locations | WYDOT gives CDL skills tests in Casper, Cheyenne, Cody, Evanston, Gillette, Rawlins, Riverton, Rock Springs and Sheridan, and in Afton in some seasons. | Official page |
| Vision standard | You need 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without lenses, and 70 degrees of horizontal vision in each eye. Worse results lead to an intrastate only restriction or extra FMCSA screening. | Official page |
| Entry-level driver training | First-time Class A or Class B applicants, Class B to Class A upgrades, and first-time S, P or H endorsements need ELDT. Skills tests are given only to people who finished ELDT or have a grandfather exemption. | Official page |
| Hazmat knowledge test | First-time hazmat applicants must finish ELDT hazmat training before the hazmat knowledge test. Wyoming CDL holders retake the hazmat test if their record does not show a pass within the last two years. | Official page |
| Tank vehicle skills test | If your test vehicle is a tank vehicle, your CLP must have the N endorsement. A tank that held hazardous materials needs a letter saying it was purged of all residue. | Official page |
| Third party skills testing | Wyoming third party examiners may give the skills test only to their own employees, volunteers or students. They may not charge a fee. | Official page |
| Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse check | Since November 18, 2024, WYDOT must check the Clearinghouse before it issues, renews, transfers or upgrades a CDL or CLP. Prohibited drivers lose commercial driving privileges. | Official page |
| K restriction for intrastate driving | Drivers who are not medically qualified under federal rules can ask Wyoming to review their history for driving only inside Wyoming. If approved, the license gets a K restriction. | Official page |
| Federal medical certificate | You must show a current federal DOT medical certificate when you apply for a Wyoming CDL, unless you are exempt. | Official page |
Fees and rules change. Confirm on the official Wyoming CDL page before you go. Read the official Wyoming CDL manual.
